Kalyug is an Asura, who descended on the earth by the order of Kaal. The only purpose of his coming on earth was to create evils in the minds of people like greed, theft, quarrel, murder, drinking alcohol, establishing relations with other women etc.
When did Kalyug come on earth?
This is about the time when Lord Shri Krishna had finished his pastimes on earth i.e. Mrityulok and after that the Pandavas also went to the Himalayas, being disillusioned with this world, handing over their kingdom to their grandson Parikshit. And Kalyug had quietly entered the land of death like a thief.
Who is Kalyug?
One day King Parikshit went far in the forest while hunting, then Kalyug blocked his way. King Parikshit got angry on this and asked, who are you to block our way like this?
Then Kalyug said - My name is Kaliyug and I have come on earth by the order of Kaal. It has been a long time since I lived here and today I am going to enter your kingdom.
The king got angry and raised his bow and tauntingly said to Kaliyuga - this courage of yours, this vision of yours that you want to reside in my state while I am alive. You want to destroy religion from this world. Before you do this disaster, we destroy you.

Kaliyug said! Rajan, the rules of nature are firm, it cannot be stopped by anyone's arrows. Just as Tretayuga came after Satyuga, then after Tretayuga no one could stop the coming of Dwaparayuga, in the same way Kaliyuga is sure to come after Dwaparayuga. That's why wise people do not fight with time.
On this King Parikshit said - Even if the time has come for Kalyug to come, it cannot come if King Parikshit was there.
Kalyug again said - If Parikshit's stay is a hindrance in the speed of time, then maybe the time has come for Parikshit's absence.
King Parikshit answered and said - God knows all that, but brave men do not give up their resolve for fear of death. That's why I tell you that - O Kalyug, you go out of the limits of our state.
Kalyug said - Rajan! Time is universal, it does not accept any boundary.
The king got angry and said - have to agree, our Brahmavrat is the abode of religion and truth. You will have to stay out of this Brahmavrat. Otherwise, today even the creator will see that the grandson of the great charioteer Arjuna, who was protected by Lord Krishna himself in the womb, how much power is there in his arrows that he can completely destroy Kalyug.
When Kalyug saw the king in anger, he said very humbly - O king! May your promise remain and the law of nature should not be broken, so I accept to bind myself within some limits till you are alive. Rajan, I have come in your refuge, and it is your religion to give place to those who have come in refuge, so you tell me the place where I can reside.
Then King Parikshit said! We allow you to live only in four places, the first place where gambling is played, the second place where alcohol is consumed, the third place with other women and the fourth place where violence takes place.
Then Kaliyug said - Rajan these four places are limited, you provide me some other place also.
The king said - Ok, Rajogun resides in money, so you can live in gold too. Hearing this, Kaliyug went and sat on the golden crown on the king's head and started laughing out loud.
