Introduction to Karna
Karna was one of the most complex and discussed characters of Mahabharata. He was called "Sutaputra" because he was raised in a Suta (chariot driver) family. But in reality Karna was the son of Suryadev and Kunti. At the time of birth, Kunti floated him in the Ganges, because she was a virgin mother and this was wrong from the point of view of society. Karna did not know this truth until the war of Mahabharata came closer.
Friendship of Karna and Duryodhana
Karna was always despised by the society. He was always treated as a low caste person, even though he was the son of Surya and a unique warrior. When Duryodhana saw that Karna's valour and strength was great, he made Karna the king of Angadesh and made him his friend. Karna too always remained loyal to Duryodhana in return of this generosity. Krishna also told Karna the secret of his birth, that he is the brother of the Pandavas. He gave Karna this opportunity to follow the path of Dharma and join his brothers. But Karna refused to leave his friend Duryodhana, because he had received love and respect only from Duryodhana in his life. Karna promised Kunti that he would not kill the other four Pandavas except Arjuna. This makes it clear that Karna had affection for his family and Dharma, but due to his loyalty he could not leave Duryodhana.
